Not A Retro Mix 2 - African and White

The second of a set of mixes that I did going back to 2003, that showcase what is in my opinion the best music to come out of the new wave/retro scene, from the late 70's and into the mid 80's. Parts 2 and 3 to me seem to be perfect companions to a lazy Sunday morning, as many of the songs remind me of Sunday mornings many years ago, when I would take time--after delivering a couple of grocery carts full of Toronto Suns and Stars--to sit around the radio and enjoy and discover this great music. That's not to say it couldn't as easily be enjoyed turned up loud, out on the road or as the soundtrack to a great party ;)

Not A Retro Mix 3 - Long Hot Summer

Part 3 of my mixes highlighting the best artists to come out of the late 70's and the 80's, of the new wave/retro scene, including The Style Council, Level 42, and Squeeze.

Not A Retro Mix 1 - Happiness Is Easy

The first of a series of mixes I did which showcase the better side of 80's music and new wave. This is the style of music that I first began to discover from an early age, around the time it was being released or not too long afterwards, and which began for me a real passion for music. I used to collect a lot of great great albums on pre-recorded cassette back in the day, and I was always obsessed with finding "long versions" of songs I loved, which would involve hours of radio-listening (namely, CFNY Toronto) with blank tape always ready to record. So now, as a lover of vinyl, it's great to track these down and hear them all the way they were meant to be heard--which to me also means mixed together. There are an ubelievable number of great tunes from back in the day and I am truly enjoying rediscovering old lost gems I used to like, and discovering great tunes from the era I never heard. To me a lot of the music from this era was just so innovative, and sounds just as fresh today, and sometimes even better now. I hope you enjoy discovering them as much as I did, or you are reminded of just how much you enjoyed your music back in the day.
